The orchestra began with a small group of instrumentalists and grew to 26 members by 2010, becoming the largest black church orchestra in the Richmond metro area. They called themselves the Cornerstone Baptist Church Worship Symphony, leading worship during Sunday services and organizing annual Christmas and Spring Concerts. Each month, the orchestra held mini concerts and special performances during Sunday evening services and church events, often collaborating with the church choir for Christmas and Easter Cantatas. The ministry also engaged in outreach by performing at local churches, senior homes, and the Chesterfield Town Center Mall during the Christmas season, as well as traveling to music conferences in other states to connect with fellow church instrumentalists. While the orchestra was fortunate to have members from the church, they were also blessed by visiting instrumentalists like the late Bob Walters, renowned for his arranging and composing skills, including conducting the National Symphony. During a period when the church lacked a full-time pianist, Bob attended a rehearsal and offered to play with us. Embracing him with his keyboard and bells, Bob joined our orchestra and church family, and we soon discovered his exceptional talent for praising Christ through music, as he arranged and composed worship pieces for both national platforms and our orchestra, dedicating his life to nurturing our church choir orchestra.
